Freelance Writing 2020: It’s Not For Sissies
Let’s face it: Pandemic or not, freelance writing has always been a tough business. You have to think of ideas, decide what type of article best fits your idea, research markets, research topics, pitch ideas—all before you write a word of the actual article. The morning presentation will cover the components listed above. We’ll also discuss how to adapt to these ever-changing times.
Pattie Giordani is a freelance writer and editor who has written for Baltimore magazine, Lehigh Valley Style and Bethlehem Press. She copyedits novels and books, including the GLVWG anthologies. Her former day jobs include associate editor at a national nonprofit association and assistant features editor at The Express-Times newspaper. She speaks at writers meetings and conferences on various topics and taught nonfiction article writing and grammar courses at Northampton Community College.
The Editor Said Yes. Now What
In the afternoon workshop, you will learn how to find and interview sources and experts, and conduct research. Then we’ll discuss how to put those puzzle pieces together to create an article. Sometimes that’s easy—sometimes it’s not. Learn tips on using quotes to their best advantage, weaving in interesting and pertinent research, and how to make your article flow.
