" The Intersection of Poetry and Memoir" with Ray Diskin Black
Historical or public figures aside, writing one’s memoir is the excavation of an ordinary life to find the extraordinary hidden there. To distill one’s life, particularly the more intimate and painful aspects of that life, to the written word can be unsettling, even terrifying. Memoir poetry can free one as a storyteller to get at the deeper truths of life in a way that more lyrically expresses the pain, despair, beauty, magic, and joy in that life. And hopefully in the process, give the reader a richer experience.
Afternoon workshop participants will have the opportunity to delve deeper into this topic, ask questions, and complete a brief exercise from a writing prompt, focusing on memoir and poetry, and share that piece of writing if they choose with the group.
Time: 1:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Zoom meeting link and password will be sent when you register.
