Frequently Asked Questions

The following are questions we get on a regular basis from folks. Don't see the question you have about GLVWG here? Send us an email at glvwg.vebmeister@gmail.com .

What is GLVWG?
The Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group is simply a group of 100+ writers of all genres and venues: fiction or non-fiction, poets, journalists, essayists, playwrights, short-fiction authors and novelists. We all have one primary function – to provide our members, and the writer community in general, support and resources to advance and promote their craft and profession.

When and where are meetings?
Membership meetings begin 10AM on the 4th Saturday of every month (except March, July, August and December), and are located in the rear meeting room of the
Palmer Library (1 Weller Place, Easton PA 18045). Please don't call the library except for directions, they have no knowledge of GLVWG programs.

What occurs at these meetings?
10 AM   Business Meeting – welcome new members, review successes, progress reports on all the activities that GLVWG supports. Oh, and a smattering of yucky business stuff, too.

11 AM   Presentation – a guided discussion on any aspect of the craft of writing, and/or the challenges that face today's writers: from outlining to self-publication, from technique to editing, from cover design to marketing, from Time to Timbuktu...

12 Noon   Lunch – break out BYOL, but be sure to come back for the...

1:30 PM   Workshop – a more focused look related to the topic of that day's discussion.

Do I have to be a member to attend meetings?
It depends.

The Business Meeting and Presentation are open to non-members, but on a limited basis. After your 2nd meeting, we request that you join as a member.

The Workshop is open to all, but there is a fee for non-members for each workshop.

The Writers' Café (See Below) is open to all members and non-members.

How do I become a member?
Members must be 18 years or older, or accompanied by an adult. Dues are listed on the “
Join GLVWG” page. Dues are payable by cash or check at any meeting, or by PayPal or credit card on this website.

What are the advantages of being a member?

What is The Writers' Cafe?
A friendly informal venue to try out your writing on your fellow authors. Writers are encouraged to read a sample of their current work (approx. 500-700 words, or what fits on 2 pages' worth of 12 pt. Times New Roman double space). The reader receives a “cold critique” from the fellow writers attending – covering what works, and what presents difficulty for the listener/audience.

Writers' Cafe (East) is at the Palmer Library, the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7PM.

Writers' Cafe (West) is at Wanamaker's General Store, Kempton PA, the 1st Sunday of every month at 1PM.

What is the Write Stuff Writers ConferenceTM?
GLVWG's signature writers' conference. Learn about all aspects of the writer's craft in workshops presented by authors and other professionals in the business. Meet and greet the agents, editors, publishers and marketers, with chances to review your work with them one-on-one.
